Please complete the online form and The Insurance Store will do the rest.

Whatever your car insurance requirements, we have access to a wide range of facilities from leading insurers, including Norwich Union, HSBC, NIG, Fortis, AXA, MMA and Zurich.

Types of Cover

The cost of your car insurance cover will differ according to the type of cover that you choose.

The Road Traffic Act requires all motorists to be insured against their liability for injuries to others (including passengers) and for damage to other persons' property resulting from use of a vehicle on a public road or in other public places. This is called Third Party Insurance. It is an offence to drive your car, or allow others to drive it, whilst on the public highway without at least Third Party Only Insurance.

This covers liability for:

  • Injuries to other people, including passengers
  • Damage to other people's property

The next level up is Third Party Fire and Theft, which will also pay up to the market value of your car if it is lost or destroyed following fire or theft. There is no cover for broken or damaged windscreens or for accidental damage or to your own vehicle.

If you select a Comprehensive policy, you would normally be covered for everything that a Third Party Fire and Theft policy would cover, plus accidental damage to your own vehicle, loss or damage to personal effects in the vehicle up to a stated limit and cover for broken or damaged windscreens. Extras such as 'personal accident' benefits or 'medical expenses', are often included in comprehensive policies.

Though polices vary between individual car insurance companies, benefits typically include a courtesy car and free cover for driving in Europe.

Help lower your premiums:

Certain factors can help lower the overall cost of your car insurance premiums. Examples of features insurers look upon favourably when calculating your car insurance premium:

Security

Install an approved alarm and immobiliser, such as a Thatcham 1 or Thatcham 2. All improvements to security could help to lower your car insurance costs.

Policy excess

Change the excess you are prepared to pay on any claim to reduce the premium. With voluntary excess the more you are willing to cover yourself in the event of an accident the lower your premium.

Mileage

Check your mileage to make sure you are not paying extra for miles you are not covering in your car. Try and work out how many miles you will genuinely cover. There are several low mileage products on the market offering reduced premiums.

Parking

Keep your car parked in a locked garage overnight if you can - this can help reduce the premium. More than half of vehicle thefts occur during the night so if your car is safely locked away it makes sense that your insurance costs will be reduced as a result.

Drivers

Any driver policies are usually more expensive so try to limit the number of drivers on your policy but also note that some insurers will give a big discount for a second driver on the policy, so even though your partner of parent may not drive the vehicle often it may still be worth adding them on.

Pass Plus

If you're a new driver, buying your first car, then taking your Pass Plus may reduce your premiums. The Pass Plus certificate can only be obtained within the first year of passing your driving test.

2nd Car Discount

If you buy a 2nd car or get a vehicle for your spouse we can match the No Claims Bonus earned on the 1st car.

For commercial clients, if you buy a commercial vehicle we can match the No Claims Bonus earned on your private car.

Company Car Bonus

If you are retiring or leaving a company car fleet, we can match the equivalent number of claim free years.
